Answers:

Q What makes the 800-HPR superior in cold weather operation to other machines?
A It's the only unit with a fully enclosed heated compartment for the hose reel, water pump and related plumbing. The hose reel extends out from the heated compartment and rotates for convenient and safe operation.

In areas of sub-freezing temperatures, you can now operate your unit more often and will not need to be concerned with ice build up in your hose.

Q Why is it important to have the plumbing enclosed or shrouded?
A This prevents exposure to the elements and also acts as a protection barrier for the operator, should a hose burst.

Q Why is it important to have the dash rotate along with the rotating
safety reel?
A By having the control panel rotate along with the reel, the operator can engage and disengage the water valve, throttle up and down, operate the reel forward and reverse, as well as the variable speed. It's impossible to operate the jet effectively if the controls are located permanently to the side of the machine.

Q As a contractor with special needs for a truck mounted jetter, can I have special custom features built into my unit?
A Yes. You can work with the sales staff and factory personnel to design features you require.

Q What options should I consider?
A The Rotating Safety Reel combined with the use of our Auto Level Wind system and remote control system. The rotating safety reel allows choice of 190 degrees of operation. The auto level wind system (a hands free system), automatically will payout and retrieve the hose. The easy adjustment and special up-down features allow the hose to move easily when the access to a sewer is more than 20 feet away. Combine these systems to either the pendant or wireless remote control and you can operate the jet from a location of your choosing and still be able to look into the manhole to see what the jet is accomplishing.

Q I need nozzles for my jetting machine, what types do you offer?
A We offer many nozzles, some of which are visible in this website. For more discussions about your application, please call 800-323-1604 and ask for the Parts Department.

Q What is more important when considering a jet? Is it PSI or Water Volume?
A They are both important. The most expensive machines and those that do the most work utilize ¾" and 1" hose and develop 2000 - 3000 PSI and 40 GPM to 65 GPM. For smaller municipal lines and commercial jobs, 4000-PSI units with 18 - 25 GPM are very effective. 2000 PSI is more than adequate to open a stoppage, but you need the added water, 40 GPM and up, to get the residue out of the line. Higher GPM machines are much more effective when you use root and grease cutters.

Q How can I run the jet in the winter and prevent freezing?
A Each jet is equipped with a re-circulation system. Simply attach the hose to the fitting and engage the clutch and water valve. This allows the water to travel throughout the entire system and back into the water tank. This prevents freezing.

Q What type of nozzle should I use to open a stoppage?
A We suggest a nozzle with a forward jet. A penetrating nozzle with a fin nozzle extension is very effective.

Q What is the advantage of a 15-degree nozzle versus a 30-degree nozzle?
A A 15-degree nozzle gives you more thrust. We think our newly designed Mini-Missile nozzle is the best in the business. For better cleaning, a 30-degree nozzle is more effective. For major cleaning (when you plan on televising a line), try our combination nozzle that has both 15 degree and 30 degree orifices. It answers both problems.

Q We don't seem to get the pressure we once got when our unit was delivered. What should we do?
A The problem more times than not, is that the holes in the nozzle have worn. They are now too big and pressure loss is the result. Do not over-speed your engine and pump to attempt to get your original PSI, replace the nozzle.

Q How do I find a local dealer or salesperson in my area?
A Call 1-800-323-1604, our staff can direct you to a dealer or salesperson for your area. If you would like the information online, you can fill out the questionnaire and the information will be given to you.

Q Who do I contact for parts & accessories?
A Your local Sewer Equipment Company of America Dealer or contact us directly at 800-323-1604.

Q What skid assembly is most effective with root and grease cutters?
A Many contractors and cities prefer the adjustable roller skids used with the Patriot Root Cutter. The adjustable skids allow you to raise and lower the root and grease cutter, so you can accommodate any size sewer line or sewer line opening (fixed style skids prevent you from doing this.) The rollers on the skids allow you to jump over offsets and eliminate needless hang-ups. There is no substitute for rollers. They just minimize friction and allow you to travel to the next manhole with much less effort and water.

Q If I have other brands of sewer equipment, can you help me with parts?
A Yes, our parts department can either help you or direct you to someone who can.

Q Does Sewer Equipment Company of America sell water pump and replacement parts?
A Yes. We have overnight service on parts and a stock of FMC/Bean and Myers pumps in stock. A trade in allowance on your old pump is often a money saver for the end user.

Q I need a quote on sewer rods. Are they available from stock?
A Yes. We manufacture sectional rods for all machines and have continuous rod in stock for immediate delivery.

Q Do you have replacement parts such as ball valves, reel swivels and jet hose available from stock?
A Yes. Replacement parts can be shipped overnight. Jet hose 1/2", 3/4", 5/8" and 1" can be shipped the same day. Sewer cleaning is an emergency and many times we react quickly to resolve your problems.

Q How much hose comes out on the FR-2000 reel?
A 500 to 600 feet of 3/4" hose is typically ordered but it can handle more.

Q Why should I use a leader hose and nozzle extension?
A It helps get you started into the sewer pipe and is a primary safety precaution. Always be certain the leader hose and nozzle extension are started up the sewer line before you turn on the high-pressure water. Use a leader hose of sufficient length so that the operator can always shut the water off when he sees the fitting on the leader hose coming to the top of the manhole. Shut the water off before the nozzle exits the sewer pipe. The nozzle extension helps keep the nozzle centered in the pipe and minimize the possibility of going up a lateral.

Q Who do I contact for technical assistance?
A Your local Sewer Equipment Company of America Dealer or contact us directly at 800-323-1604.

Q Why do I need a clutch?
A There are a few reasons why having a clutch is necessary. A clutch is used to engage and disengage the pump. This is a safety device for both the operator and the pump. In areas where freezing is a possibility, you can start the engine without engaging the pump. Particles of ice can be in the pump and if you didn't have a clutch, the engine and pump would turn at the same time and you could end up replacing a pump. The clutch protects the pump in situations where you run out of water and the hose is still in the line. While leaving the engine running, simply disengage the pump and bring the hose back under hydraulic pressure.

Q What is the main difference between gas and diesel?
A A diesel engine will last longer and will therefore have a higher resale value or trade-in value when it is time to replace.
